Doctor diesA doctor in private practice yesterday morning died of coronavirus-related complications after treating an infected patient in his hospital. The doctor, identified as Dr. Chugbo Emeka, who died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, was said to have been admitted at the hospital Monday, after contracting the disease from a COVID-19 patient he was said to have managed in a private hospital where he worked before his death.

“The timeline still is pretty certain,” Wolk told Yahoo Finance in an interview.

Covid 19The Osun State Government has restated its warning that private hospitals in the State steer clear admitting and treating suspected or confirmed Coronavirus patients.

The State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode who gave the warning in  public announcement on Thursday, stated that non-adherence to the directive would attract prosecution by the State Government. Egbemode disclosed the State government has accredited health facilities with required personnel to treat suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients in the State.

Edo StateEdo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki,has disclosed that  the state plans to screen over 500,000 citizens across the 18 Local Government Areas of  the state within the next few weeks. The screening of the citizens is coning on the heels of the securing of  two additional testing facilities at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City by the government as part of increased efforts to detect and manage cases of corona virus (COVID-19) in the state.

The Edo State Government has set up screening facilities in six Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and four private hospitals in Benin City, as part of efforts to curtail the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state. The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Patrick Okundia, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, said modalities to scale up screening services across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state is being worked out.

fake covid 19Nigerian Government on Tuesday warned against patronising a fake coronavirus vaccine, which it said was on sale in Kano State. “You must ignore the Vaccine being hawked in Kano which is called ‘COVID19 Vaccine’. It is yellow in color, it’s not certified by anybody, please don’t patronize the hawkers,”Nigeria’s information minsiter Lai Mohammed said during the presidential taskforce on COVID19 briefing.

No approved vaccineThe World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday insisted that there was no approved vaccine in Nigeria or any part of Africa for COVID-19 saying researches are still ongoing on the deadly viral disease.

WHO Immunisation Team Lead, Dr Fiona Braka, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the efforts of the world body on the reported vaccines for the deadly virus. Braka said COVID-19, being a new disease, has no ready vaccines, adding that public safety was the key consideration of WHO campaign for now.

covid 19 81The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, says 81 per cent of countries in Africa have received medical supplies to support health workers. The first UN Solidarity Flight which is part of a larger effort to ship lifesaving medical supplies to 95 countries departed Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to various countries on April 14.

The UN health agency gave an update on Tuesday on its official twitter account @WHOAFRO. “The UN ‘Solidarity Flight’ touching down in Brazzaville, Congo this weekend with the support of World Food Programme (WFP), Jack Ma Foundation, Africa Centre for Disease Control, African Union and Federal Ministry of Health. “Eighty one per cent of countries in Africa have received life-saving COVID-19 medical equipment.’’

sokoto NMAThe Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Sokoto state chapter, Dr Sani Abubakar, has been confirmed positive to Coronavirus. Abubakar disclosed this via his social media platforms on Tuesday. ”One of my unpleasant responsibilities is when I have to break bad news to my highly cherished brethren. It became worse now that it is about me.

”I have been tested and confirmed positive for COVID-19 and I have commenced treatment, and currently, I am clinically stable,” Abubakar said. Abubakar added that he had no travel history or contact with any confirmed or suspected case so far.

confusion as ChineseThe team of 15 Chinese medical professionals who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on April 8, 2020, with medical equipment worth about $1.5 million, is expected to complete the mandatory 14-day isolation period today.

The team is expected to begin work tomorrow after the completion of the 14-day quarantine period. The invitation of the Chinese doctors by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 was highly criticized by most Nigerians especially doctors under the aegis of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
