The fundamental objective of the drug control conventions is to achieve a balance between ensuring availability for medical and scientific purposes and preventing diversion to illicit use and abuse.

NDLEAThe National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said Nigeria might face a drug abuse epidemic due to increasing influx of Tramadol into the country.

Mr Garba Ahmadu, the NDLEA Commander, Murtala Muhammed Airport Command, gave the warning at an event to mark the “UN International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” in Lagos.

At the commissioning of the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Calabar on Tuesday, Buhari said that Nigeria’s primary health care system needs to be innovative and quality driven.

Alabi made the statement at the fifth edition of the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award held last Friday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

 
He said, “The way forward is for the private sector to drive healthcare in Nigeria. The government must actually step back and give the private sector the opportunity to run the health delivery.

Stakeholders to Address Health Problems

At a press briefing in Lagos recently, the Chief Executive Officer, Hygeia Healthcare Maintenance Organisation Limited, Mr. Obinnia Abajue, said the conference, tagged, ‘Sustainable Healthcare, The Road Map’, would focus on challenging hospitals to deliver better care by strengthening their capacity while giving insight into funding solutions.

Lassa fever kills nurse in Edo

lassa feverAn outbreak of Lassa fever has allegedly claimed the life of Mr Henry Ehimati, a male nurse working with Okomu Oil Palm Company staff clinic, located in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo.

The victim, said to be in his 30s and married with a child, works at the clinic, but lives with his family at Upper Sakponba area of Benin whenever he was off duty.

TBThe Minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewole has advocated for the inclusion of TB test result in the basic requirements for employment in the federal and state civil service as well as admissions into secondary and tertiary institutions with a view to fast-tracking diagnosis and total eradication of the disease from the country before 2030.

He made the suggestion in a keynote address at opening ceremonies of the 61st National Council on Health Meeting in Kano with a theme “the second national strategic health development plan: a roadmap to achieving health coverage.
